A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck China’s southwestern province of Sichuan on August 8th, 2017. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 20km.

More than 38,000 tourists were visiting the remote, mountainous Jiuzhaigou county when the earthquake struck. 13 people were reported to be killed and over 175 people were severely injured.

The military was deployed to provide relief and support to the affected people, with electricity being restored within hours.
