An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck Indonesia's Aceh province off the north-eastern coast of Sumatra Island on 7 December. 102 deaths have been reported so far, with hundreds more injured. The area of the Pidie Jaya district was closest to the epicentre and worst affected with at least 250 buildings damaged including a number of mosques, shops and a school. Thousands of people have been left homeless in the aftermath.
