A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the island of Mindanao in the Philippines on 10 February. Eight people have been killed in Suriago City, and more than 200 injured in what has been described as the most powerful earthquake the city has experienced since 1879. The epicentre of the earthquake was off the coast of Mindanao, 14 km north-east of Suriago. It is estimated that over a thousand homes have been damaged or destroyed and over a hundred aftershocks have struck the region. Reports suggest that at least 50 villages in the area have been affected.
