It has been reported that a vast majority of people have died and many people found severely injured, homeless, or missing due to the heavy rain resulting after surging rivers sent an avalanche of floodwater, mud and debris in the city of Mocoa in southern Colombia during the early hours of Saturday, 01 April 2017. A search continues for missing people after this catastrophe. This heavy flooding caused the streets to be covered in thick sand, mud and tree limbs from the rivers and rainforest that surround Mocoa, in the mountainous region along Colombia's southern border.
