Monsoon rains have caused severe flooding in Bangladesh and neighboring countries such as Nepal. 20 districts across Bangladesh have been affected, displacing hundreds of thousands of people and leaving 27 dead. It has been reported that the water level of the Brahmaputra River has reached a level not exceeded for a hundred years. The floods follow in a relatively short time frame from those which affected Bangladesh in May and June. There are fears that the situation will grow worse as the rains continue.
