Monsoon rains caused severe flooding and mudslides in western and southern Sri Lanka, leaving at least 91 people dead and 8000 people affected. The southwestern district of Kalutara is reported to be the worst affected area, with at least five mudslides confirmed and evacuations underway. Local authorities have closed schools in the Subaragamuwa province, and the Sri Lankan Navy and Airforce have been deployed to provide emergency relief to affected areas.
