If you are familiar with Planet, you know we have a multi-faceted approach to Earth observation. Our Dove® constellation provides daily, near-global coverage, while our SkySat® constellation delivers high-resolution imagery down to 50 cm spatial resolution.

Historically, accessing SkySat tasking for specific areas of interest required working with our Sales team and utilizing the Planet Tasking Dashboard. While this scenario is still ideal for consistent, large-scale needs, what if you need just one high-resolution image for a specific project, without a recurring subscription? That's where Single Order Tasking comes in!

Introducing Single Order Tasking: Simple, Easy, and Quick

This new self-service, pay-as-you-go portal, powered by our partners at SkyFi, simplifies access to Planet Tasking. Whether you're looking to monitor a short-term construction project, investigate a specific event, or simply explore a particular location in greater detail, now you can do so with ease.

In the webinar, SkyFi provided a demonstration of the intuitive platform, highlighting several key features:

• Familiar Interface: Because the platform is built on a Google Maps framework, defining your area of interest is straightforward. You can search by coordinates or address, resize a bounding box, draw custom shapes, or even upload existing shapefiles (KMZ, KML, JSON).
• Flexible or Assured Tasking: Two tasking options are available to choose from to best suit your needs.
  • Flexible Tasking: This option allows you to specify a capture window (as short as 7 days or up to 3 months), and then the system optimizes for the best collection conditions (aiming for less than 15% cloud cover).
  • Assured Tasking: This approach allows you to reserve a specific date and time for image capture. While weather conditions aren't guaranteed, this option provides certainty for time-sensitive needs.
• Transparent Pricing: Flexible Tasking is offered at $12/sq km and Assured Tasking is offered at $40/sq km. As you define your area of interest, the price updates instantly in U.S. dollars.
• Recurring Orders: For ongoing monitoring needs (monthly, quarterly, bi-annually), you can set up recurring orders and "set it and forget it."
• Sample Imagery and Deliverables: You can explore sample SkySat imagery and download a sample deliverable package to understand the data you'll receive (16-bit TIFF, PNG, and metadata).
• Easy Order Management: You are able to track your orders, add custom names for easy identification, and access your captured imagery directly through the platform or via email link (valid for 7 days). You can also download the specific AOI as a JSON file for use in other workflows.
• Saved Areas of Interest: You can save frequently revisited areas or custom shapes for quick and easy future tasking.
