Bedrock Research Joins Planet, Accelerating AI-Driven Solutions

TechI am excited to share that Planet has acquired Bedrock Research, a geospatial AI solutions company based in Denver, Colorado. With Bedrock, Planet welcomes a talented team of engineers and a proven AI workflow into our organization, marking a significant step forward for our AI-powered global data solutions business.
At Planet, we are constantly evaluating how to best deliver value to our customers while operating efficiently. We partnered closely with Bedrock over the past year to build and scale capabilities for our global monitoring solutions customers, and through this partnership saw firsthand how Bedrock delivered a highly efficient, proven workflow for applying the latest AI technologies to Planet data. Validated with Planet customers, it became clear that bringing Bedrock and Planet together was a natural strategic fit.

Beyond the technology, the caliber of the Bedrock team is exceptional. They possess rare, deep expertise at the intersection of remote sensing, AI/ML, and national security, and we’re fortunate and excited to welcome them to the team.
Their leadership has a track record of high-stakes success; their CEO previously led the deployment of a multi-hundred million dollar real-time analytics program for the U.S. intelligence community, and their CTO pioneered some of the earliest operationally-deployed deep learning algorithms for on-orbit processing. We saw this talent in action during our partnership in 2025, where they demonstrated not just technical skill, but a strong alignment with Planet’s mission and culture.
Looking Ahead
We officially completed the transaction in November, and as of December 1, we have welcomed their team to Planet full time. They’re already hitting the ground running, bringing capabilities in location monitoring, object and activity tracking, and anomaly recognition that will make our solutions offerings even more robust.
This acquisition is a continued investment in our product strategy, ensuring we have the best people and the best technology to make global change visible, accessible, and actionable.
