As the world comes together for COP30 in Belém, Brazil, Planet is proud to collaborate with leading institutions and regional partners across Latin America to strengthen forest governance and scale innovative monitoring solutions that protect the Amazon and beyond.
From Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and Panama, these collaborations are resulting in pilot programs that represent more than technological innovation. They are proof that partnerships between governments, science, and industry can drive meaningful change.
Forging Stronger Partnerships for Planetary Impact
At the heart of these pilots is a shared commitment to collaboration. Planet’s Allies: national environmental agencies, defense institutions, and local partners such as SCCON, Procalculo, and CIVIS, are joining forces to test and scale Planet Insights Platform and Forest Carbon Solutions for forest monitoring, carbon accounting, and environmental enforcement.
Together, these pilots embody the spirit of the theme of COP30: “Together for the Amazon.”
Brazil: Scaling Environmental Enforcement and Carbon Markets
In Brazil, Planet is strengthening its collaboration with key institutions as part of the Brasil MAIS Program, led by the Federal Police of Brazil and supported by our local and strategic partner SCCON.
This pilot will expand the use of Planet satellite data to detect illegal deforestation, enhance carbon stock monitoring, support fraud investigations, and ensure transparency and temporal consistency of information. This in turn will Reinforce RedeMAIS’ role in integrating science, technology, and public policies to support conservation and strengthen the carbon market in Brazil.
By integrating law enforcement efforts with advanced forest analytics, enabled jointly by Planet and SCCON, Brazil is establishing a new benchmark for operationalizing environmental intelligence at scale, positioning itself as a global leader in climate innovation and accountability.
Bolivia: Advancing Article 6 and Carbon Transparency
Partnering with INRA (Instituto Nacional de Reforma Agraria) and CIVIS, Planet is exploring a Forest Carbon Monitoring pilot designed to enhance monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems for carbon accounting and land management.
This initiative will strengthen Bolivia’s readiness for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and position the country as a regional leader in transparent, high-integrity climate finance. The pilot aims to demonstrate how Earth observation data can deliver credible, scalable results for nature-based solutions.
Colombia: Strengthening Amazon Monitoring and Protection
In Colombia, Planet, in collaboration with the Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana (FAC) and Procalculo, is advancing a pilot with Planet Forest Carbon Monitoring, which integrates global data on forest carbon, tree height, and canopy cover to strengthen the monitoring of the Colombian Amazon.
This pilot will enable the identification and prioritization of activities within protected areas, assess forest degradation and severity, and more accurately estimate carbon loss in disturbed regions, showcasing how innovation and enforcement can converge to safeguard one of the world’s most vital ecosystems.
Panama: Empowering National Monitoring for Article 6 Through Innovation
Planet’s partnership with MiAmbiente Panamá (Panama's Ministry of Environment) and local partner Procalculo, continues to grow through a new Forest Carbon Monitoring pilot. This integrates canopy height, forest carbon data, and high-resolution imagery to enhance Panama’s National Environmental Information System (SINIA).
The initiative is focused on demonstrating how sovereign adoption of remote sensing can improve and strengthen Panama’s MRV system under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, highlighting the country’s leadership in climate innovation at COP30.
A Collective Vision for COP30 and Beyond
Each of these pilots represents a shared vision of collaborative climate action, rooted in local expertise and powered by cutting-edge technology. Through an unmatched historic archive and the leading ability to monitor large areas of interest (AOIs) on a near-daily basis, Planet enables governments to track progress with unprecedented transparency and precision – verifying and monitoring the commitments made at COP30 from space. Together with our allies, Planet aims to showcase how Earth observation data can advance environmental integrity, deter illegal activity, unlock new climate finance opportutnies, and empower governments to meet their sustainability commitments.
As we look toward COP30 in Belém, these partnerships are real-world examples of how innovation, collaboration, and transparency can drive scalable impact across the Amazon and the planet.
