Simplified Management: Account Visibility and Control
There are several ways that the new platform experience makes managing your resources clearer and more predictable - including within the account section. Here’s what’s new:
- Unified Account Management: In the new usage and reporting view, it provides clear visibility into your user activity, invoices, purchases, and quotas - including processing units (PUs). PUs are the compute currency used to perform analysis operations on the platform.
- Actionable Reporting: There are now color-coded quota alerts and downloadable reports to help you track and forecast your usage. You can also visualize usage trends over time and identify which APIs consume the most resources for your PU consumption.
If your customer account has been migrated to this new account model, with the above updates, you will be able to navigate to the new Account Manager. If your account has not been migrated yet, you will be directed to the existing Account App with no changes. We are currently working on a migration timeline and strategy for all of our customers.

The data section of the platform has been enhanced to consolidate all your data discovery, delivery, and management tools in one place. There are three key features that drastically streamline your data workflows:
- Subscriptions: Subscriptions provide a way to request a constant delivery of new data as soon as it’s available, without needing to check for new data yourself. A new dashboard displays the status of all your subscriptions – whether you choose to deliver data to your cloud storage destination or a platform data collection.
- Destinations: This new feature improves security and collaboration by allowing you to securely save a cloud storage destination (like an Amazon S3 bucket) to the platform. Once saved, it’s available to any users in your organization for secure data delivery.
- Data Collections: This is an on-platform data storage option for Planet datasets. Data stored in a collection enables our streaming and analysis tools. Critically, you no longer have to choose between hosting on the platform or local downloads — you can now download the GeoTIFFs directly from your data collections.
Analysis, Made Easier: Maximize the Value of Your Data
Finally, there are also notable updates to the platform's analysis tools. These are at the core of the platform's efficiency because they make it easier to explore and visualize data.
- Centralized Tools: The Analyze section unifies tools like the Planet Browser (for visualization), Configurations (for managing visualization layers), and the Request Builder (for creating API requests that you copy into your development workflow).
- Browser Features for Analysis: Planet Browser lets you visualize and interact with PlanetScope® and public data accessed via the platform without needing a download. And built-in tools for comparing images (tracking urban growth or deforestation) and creating time lapses (for visualizing change over time) will help you gain quick visual insights.
- Simple Interoperability: You can now use pre-defined visualizations for common visualizations and spectral indices. Or, you can create custom visualizations by writing your own evalscripts for advanced analysis, like multi-temporal analysis or data fusion (combining PlanetScope and Sentinel imagery). You can also quickly find all your OGC service links from one place to stream your analysis directly into your GIS applications like QGIS and ArcGIS.
