Watching a Satellite Deploy

Stories

As a member on the Planet People Team, it’s not lost on me how unique a workplace Planet is. One of the most exciting experiences that my colleagues and I at Planet share is watching satellite deployments.

We use the International Space Station as a test bed for our newest demonstration satellites. During deployment cycles, exterior cameras and astronauts on board the station capture videos and stills of our Doves as they deploy into space, two-by-two. Down here on Earth, the Planet Team gets to watch a live feed of each deployment.

We talked to a handful of Planet employees across our manufacturing, mission operations, and marketing teams about witnessing satellite deployments. Get a feel for what it’s like to watch these live feeds in our San Francisco headquarters with this video:

Satellite launches and space station deployments are just one part of the exciting culture here at Planet. Stay tuned for more employee stories. To learn more about the current openings in San Francisco, Berlin, Lethbridge, Seattle and Amsterdam, check out planet.com/careers.
