12 Dove Satellites Successfully Launched on Soyuz Rocket

News

An exciting end to another strong year for Planet! Yesterday, 12 next-generation Dove satellites – Flock 3k – were successfully launched on a Soyuz rocket out of Vostochny Cosmodrome and deployed into an approximately 500 km Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO). We’re thrilled to announce that our Mission Control Team has made contact with all 12 satellites and our automated commissioning process has begun.

This launch marks our third successful launch in just 28 days and brings our active, on-orbit fleet to roughly 150 satellites across our three constellations – Dove, SkySat, and RapidEye. With this launch, we’re heading into 2019 with continued, unmatched Earth observation coverage and revisit rates, helping us to provide our customers with valuable insights they need to make smart, timely decisions.

Thanks to GK Launch Services for our fourth successful ride on a Soyuz rocket! We’ll be sharing more updates on Flock 3r and the rest of our fleet soon, follow along @planetlabs.
