Planet and Bayer Partner to Shape the Future of Farming with Resilient Supply Chains and Enhanced Product Development

Stories

Agricultural supply chains are facing growing climate and economic disruptions, but we can create a more secure and sustainable world by speeding R&D cycles and optimizing seed supply. Partnerships are critical to meeting the challenges successfully, and by marrying the right data with industry expertise we can shape the future of global farming. That is why we are proud to partner with Bayer Crop Science, which is leveraging digital technologies to ensure global food security and environmental sustainability in pursuit of their mission “Health for All, Hunger for None.”

Our satellites capture images of global farming across the Earth at a near-daily cadence. Bayer is a leader in seed and crop protection. Together, how can we shape the future of farming from space?

Bayer is leveraging Planet data to ensure that they have the right seed, in the right place, at the right time to serve their growers worldwide. This consistent visibility into the well-being of Bayer production fields provides increased reliability in seed production, and this enables Bayer to optimize product supply at a global scale. They can look at our data feeds across four continents and hundreds of thousands of acres of crop land to evaluate global supply chain readiness.

Combining our imagery products with Bayer’s crop and data science expertise, field managers can evaluate field progression on a near real-time basis. With our analysis-ready Planet Fusion data, Bayer’s Product Supply organization has enabled field operations teams to manage the season with confidence. Bayer’s Planet-powered solutions enable field managers to segregate large fields to evaluate and optimize overall field stability. This data provides increased knowledge regarding seed production, crop health, and harvest readiness, ensuring greater land optimization and increasing supply chain efficiencies. This, in turn, helps to build resilient food systems in the face of climate change and economic volatility.

“Bayer is going through a transformation. In our R&D, we are moving more from selecting the products that perform better in our pipeline to designing the products that perform best in farmers’ fields. This technology has the potential to bring innovation that reduces our carbon footprint, while at the same time delivering better products and more innovation to our customers,” said Nalini Polavarapu, VP of Enterprise and Data Science at Bayer Crop Sciences.

Planet and Bayer have partnered for several years to help lead the global digital and sustainable agricultural revolution. For example, Bayer and Planet joined the European Carbon + Farming Coalition to support the EU Green Deal Carbon neutrality goals. We look forward to a bright farming future through our collaboration with Bayer.
