ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Since 2009, the DLR has been supporting scientific institutions in Germany by providing RapidEye satellite imagery—and later also PlanetScope and SkySat data—free of charge for research purposes. The RESA (RapidEye Science Archive) was established for this purpose and has recently been transferred to CODE-DE-Lab. It comprises the following collections:
Access to RESA is available for research purposes to all researchers, students and teaching staff at colleges, universities, research institutions and similar organizations based in Germany.
Planet's extensive satellite imagery archive offers global coverage and consistency, making it ideal for advanced analysis. With near-daily images for every location on Earth since 2016, the researchers can access a rich data set available for machine learning, computer vision, and predictive modeling.
Near-daily, Global Coverage (over 350 million sq km)
High Spatial Resolution with Sentinel-2 Compatibility

Consistent Data Quality and Extensive Archive
Application Process
Applications for access to RESA must be submitted exclusively via CODE-DE Lab. Go to the CODE-DE-Lab website and follow the instructions for RESA access.
A summary of the process:
What can I do if I need data that isn't available in RESA?
Please always check whether the data you require is already available in the existing RESA.
If this is not the case, you can apply to DLR to have new data included in the RESA. There are two ways to do this:
To expand RESA, the space agency at DLR collects and coordinates user requests via so-called PlanetScope Calls. To this end, a needs assessment (“Call”) is conducted annually in the autumn via the Earth Observation Newsletter. Following the relevant evaluation, selected PlanetScope data is added to RESA on a quarterly basis, depending on demand. Access is then granted via CODE-DE-Lab, as described above.
The process comprises 4 steps:
Further information on the process is available here.
Urgent requests with specific location or timing constraints can be handled as User Requests, separate from standard PlanetScope calls
User Requests are submitted via CODE-DE-Lab.
The process comprises 5 steps:
Further information can be found here, as well as a step-by-step guide to take you through the data ordering process here.
Important: the data from User Requests is not stored in RESA and is only available to the users who requested it.
